Company History

The Tempest Power Blower was invented by Don Hamman, a hot air balloon enthusiast who needed
a safer and more powerful fan to inflate his hot air balloon. The power blower that he invented was soon discovered by a fire department in Kern County, CA that was experimenting with Positive Pressure Ventilation (PPV) in the late 1980’s. PPV is applied to a burning structure to remove the heat, gases and smoke from the interior. By removing the hostile interior environment, it is easier and safer for fire fighters to enter the structure, locate victims and extinguish the fire. The belt-drive design
of theTempest Blower made the unit more stable and more powerful than anything the fire department had yet tested. The fire department purchased the Tempest balloon inflator fan and a business
was born.

From a foundation built in the fire service, Tempest has expanded into other industries and found new applications for its products. The Tempest Power Blower and PPV are used by construction contractors to control the hostile environments they encounter such as dust, fumes, and unhealthy gases like carbon monoxide; greatly improving safety in confined spaces.
One of the most significant innovations from Tempest is the Mobile Ventilation Unit (MVU) a vehicle mounted, hydraulically powered blower that is used to ventilate highway tunnels, train tunnels, and large warehouses. The MVU can also be used to ventilate aircraft, airport terminal buildings, and
high-rise buildings.

Tempest Technology Corporation has established a reputation as a leader and innovator in the air movement industry and continues in that role today.
